K-12 Students

The Louisiana Research Collection is a partner in the “Teaching American History in Louisiana” (TAHIL) project. Through lesson plans and digitized original history resources, TAHIL strives to support American history teachers in Louisiana who work with elementary, middle, and high school students.

LaRC’s contribution to TAHIL included digitizing several hundred of the original documents in our care and adding them to the Louisiana Digital Library (LDL). They are organized on the LDL’s website as part of the “Teaching American History Collection.”

We encourage teachers to use our resources for their classes, including assigning projects to students that would require a visit to our reading room to view original items. We welcome high school students in our reading room. Younger students should be accompanied by their teacher, parent, or guardian.

We ask teachers to follow these two guidelines when making assignments using LaRC resources:

  1. Please let us know in advance of assignments by contacting Tulane University Special Collections, Research Services at specialcollections@tulane.edu.
  2. Please instruct your students not to visit in groups larger than three or four persons at a time.
