LaRC’s Louisiana Image Collection comprises more than forty linear feet of Louisiana photographs, lithographs, and postcards. After more than a year of work, LaRC has completed reorganizing and updating the entire collection and has created the collection’s first online guide. The Louisiana Image Collection now has a detailed and searchable finding aid, updated subject headings, and is more easily accessible. The collection’s housing has also been upgraded to give it better protection from the elements and wear.

The online guide includes a host of new features. In addition to thousands of new keywords, visitors to LaRC’s website can now search by photographer, date, image type, name, and more. Notes accompanying the images are also included in the finding aid, such as “Kranz hotel as seen from the West. In the first cottage on the left, Lafcadio Hearn wrote much of Chita.”

In addition to the Louisiana Image Collection, LaRC preserves extensive images within our archival collections. Images within archival collections are discoverable through our online database of archival finding aids.

LaRC’s book, magazine, and print holdings are also an excellent source for Louisiana images of all types. And, LaRC’s extensive Louisiana Ephemera Collection preserves thousands of Louisiana images.
